two weeks over already! can your believe it, cause i can't! this past week has been crazy, as you could probably tell by the last three posts of expert of the days and the scavenger hunt in rome. i think we all woke up today exhausted with sore legs and glad to have a lazy sunday at the palace. if we all don't have toned calves, thighs, and gluts, by the time we get back to the states there's going to be a serious probably. last night we all went in to rome to celebrate elizabeth verdone's 21st birthday. not that it's a big deal over here, but we made last night as american as we could, starting off with dinner at the hard rock cafe. yes, we're in italy and we went to an american chain restaurant. after eating literally pizza and pasta for two weeks straight sometimes you need some greasy, unhealthy, nachos, cheeseburgers, and fries, washed down with a coke. one thing is for certain we all loved it while we were eating it but once we were bloated, too full, and about to pass out, we all agreed we got our fix and enjoy the smaller, healthier italian food. and on a side note. americans in an american restaurant overseas get vip treatment. when we arrived the place was packed, the wait was 2 1/2 hours, and 11 girls trying to sit together wasn't going to happen. about to walk out the door the manager, roberto, an american from boston, overheard us kind of complaining to each other and said, "you're the group of 11? i'm working on it, just stay around the front." so after waiting only 20 minutes, we got a head nod from roberto, and were taken to the back room to a table for 11 waiting for us. you would have thought we never had eaten in our lives. needless to say, dinner was a success! after a long late dinner, we headed toward the bars and nightspots of roma. italian guys treat american girls like they never saw a woman before in their lives. i was serenaded by the elephant love song from moulin rouge, really italian boys? meeting locals is fun, but i never ever let my guard down. i guess it's the mom in me or the fact that i'm not interested in all, i already have a guy. i was proud of all 20 of us too. no drama, no fighting, we stayed together, and we're waiting to be picked up when we were told and where we were told. so rome on our own for a whole weekend went smoothly.
this week we have yet another busy schedule. history and italian class tomorrow, cooking lesson for lunch, and a movie on pompeii. i think we're going to have a group valentines' dinner together and a night of chick flicks since no one has their boyfriends here.
tuesday we have a field trip all day to the etruscans and ancient rome.
wednesday we have class on pompeii, hisotry class, food in ancient rome class and dinner
thursday field trip to pompeii all day.
friday thru sunday...GREECE. some of us are traveling to athens for the weekend. (don't worry mom)
less than four weeks till mom, dad, and nick come, can't wait!
ciao!
Jamie
